Portree is known as the capital of the Isle of Skye and is situated on its east coast, about a third of the way down from the island's most northerly point. It is a bustling town in the tourist season and can provide guests with enough walks and opportunities to explore to fill a day out. It is well worth taking your camera out to take photos of the bay, the colourful harbour-side buildings and the view of the town from the Quay. If you explore far enough there is also a spectacular view across the town to the Old Man of Storr.
Portree is a good centre for touring the island and also boasts a range of shops, a Post Office, banks, bars, cafes, restaurants, the Aros Heritage Centre and a well-staffed tourist office. There is a small swimming pool, soon to be superseded by a new, larger pool on the High School site and bicycles can be hired in the centre of the town. In the evenings you can enjoy a variety of local seafood or sample Cuillin Ales at 'The Isles', the local pub. |

Larchside itself is located along the Achachork township road two miles to the north of Portree. From the house you have views across Portree Bay to the beautiful Cuillin Mountains in the south and to one of the Macleod’s Tables, near Dunvegan, in the west. The front of the house has a south-westerly aspect which gives us the benefit of watching many spectacular sunsets throughout the year.
